Frequently Asked Questions

Powering On:
Powering on your computer usually only requires that the power
cable be connected and that you press your power button. As you
are here we can assume that your computer is powered on. However
sometimes your computer may not power on if you have moved it
recently or added new hardware forgetting to re-attach any cables
you may have unplugged in the process of adding your new hardware.
If you have recently experienced outages in power or power surges.
Possibly simply age is a factor in hardware failure such as that
in your computers power supply. This simple steps may remedy your
power failure issue.
Be sure the power cable is firmly connected to your computer and
that the power supply switch is in the on position.
Be sure that your power switch is not loose from the case. Or that
the faceplate is firmly secured.
If you are a technical individual be sure that all power cables
are firmly secured inside the case. If you would rather not do
this you can instead contact Northwest Computer Professionals
through their support system or over the telephone and arrange
that we fix your computer. If your machine is still under
warrantee from your computer manufacturer contact them instead to
avoid voiding your warrantee.
Peripheral Connection
If a mouse or keyboard is not working properly their a few steps
you can take to fix the problem yourself.
Be sure as with all connections to your computer that whatever
plugs are connected securely. If your keyboard or mouse is not
responding unplug them from your computer and plug them back in.
In the event that the above steps do not work for you, you may
check your device manager accessible through the properties dialog
of My Computer check if all device drivers are installed and the
device is enabled if they are not run the hardware wizard and find
the correct drivers for your devices.

Monitor Issues
If your display does not display anything in windows their may be
a driver conflict if you have recently updated your computer or
changed displays. Reboot your computer and enter safe mode by
pressing F8 select any of the safe mode selections containing the
words safe mode and attempt to restore to an earlier configuration
though the System restore program accessible through
Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Restore.
If your display does not display anything at all even during boot
post (the sequence of screens proceeding windows) Check your
monitor connections and be sure that you are connected to the
active display adapter (if you have more than one).

Sound Issues
If you cannot hear sound coming from your speakers check to be
sure that your speakers are connected to the line out jack on your
computer and that the volume level is set to an audible level in
volume control.
Next Check your device manager accessible through the properties
window of My Computer that your sound device is installed. If it
is not you can contact the manufacturer of your sound device on
the web or over the telephone and have them direct you through the
process of installing your sound device.
Their is one last thing you can check before bringing the machine
in to us and that is accessible through the My Computer Manage
menu select services and check to see if Windows Audio is a
started service. If it is not start the service.
Internet Issues
Internet issues can range from not being able to receive email,
network errors or being able to reach a selected page through your
web browser. If your problem happens to be the latter we can
safely assume that you are either using another machine or that
you no longer have an issue as you are viewing this page.
Most issues can be resolved by checking your network settings or
power cycling your router, modem or both; by unplugging your
router, modem or both for 15 seconds and reconnecting power to
your devices. For an accurate listing of your email and internet
settings please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) Local
High-speed Providers in our serviceable area are ATC and Microserv
. Dial-Up providers are a dime a dozen if you are still browsing
with dial-up we recommend that you upgrade your internet service.
It will cost you more but the added functionality and ease of your
internet experience will be well worth the price.
